These are some of the many vibrant Jewish groups, communities, or spaces in our campus community.
CHALLaH cappella is Oberlin’s only Jewish music a cappella group on campus. Founded in Fall 2012 by Oberlin alumni Talia Greenberg and Lyz Glickman, CHALLaH cappella performs at student functions throughout the year, including Shabbat dinners, the midterm study break, and even a few off-campus venues. Repertoire includes everything from traditional Jewish melodies, modern Israeli pop tunes, and an array of American songs by Jewish artists. Auditions are held at the beginning of every semester and are open to all Obies, Jewish and non-Jewish alike! Email Neil at email@example.com for more information.
Sponsored by the Jewish Studies Department, the Hebrew Heritage program dormitory, 'Johnson House', fosters a close-knit Jewish focused community and hosts events on topics of Jewish interest. Students enjoy Havdalah services, Purim parties, song sessions, challah baking, student lead discussion surrounding Judaism, Bagel and Lox brunches and much more!
If you're interested in upcoming events or living in J House, email the RA: Natasha Gwirceman (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Kosher Halal Co-op
Kosher-Halal Co-op (KHC) is a non-living dining co-op, which simultaneously abides by traditional Muslim and Jewish dietary laws. Located on the first floor of Talcott dorm (2 S Professor St), KHC considers itself a safe space for expressing any religious identity, a warm and inviting space at all times of day, and a culturally rich space for sharing holiday experiences. KHC hosts weekly Shabbat dinners on Friday nights and biannual Muslim feasts. The co-op is driven by a commitment to fostering safe and comfortable religious spaces at Oberlin, and proudly partners with representatives from the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life to accomplish this goal. KHC also works closely with students and staff members from Oberlin Hillel and the Muslim Student Association.
For more information about eating at KHC during a college visit or joining as a permanent member during the school year you can check out our facebook page (just search Kosher Halal Co-op) or email email@example.com.
